Hey guys, I started adding the minions' Japanese names to the complete list by reading the Japanese strategy guide. I transcribed and transliterated them myself, so do be on the lookout for any typos or mistakes I may have made, though I did triple-check the list. It's also possible the guide might have mistakes (the English strategy guide has loads of typos in it) so I will also check them against the Japanese game at a future date, probably during an LP; the alternate Tweengo and Sherick forms were not in the strategy guide so I'll have to play and/or hack the game for those. Up to you guys whether they are also copy-pasted to the other lists.
I figured I'd start this topic to share a few observations in the Japanese names. All in all they were faithfully translated, though there are a few oddities:
- Dogle's Japanese name is Dongle, as in JC2, same with Geenwee/Ginui. I'll need to look at the others' Japanese JC2 names in the future (I do have that strategy guide also!).
- Mukshab's Japanese name is Mutskishab, and I suspect the translator misread its name when transliterating (I already noted this on Mukshab's name).
- Rashaba's J name is Rashababa. There's a special page in the Japanese guide about Rashaba and Ehsp and their recolors, I need to have a friend translate it to see if it gives clues on how to obtain them. It doesn't mention the Pocketstation as far as I can tell.
- The page on Tweengo and Sherick says that while Sherick needs 4 minions (Patalchu, Rugdogle, Doghambu and Hiralco), Tweengo only needs 3 (Patalchu, Radoimel, and Yoalk).
- Vatolka's Japanese name is Padolka, as I had seen in one of the Youtube videos. Interesting translation choice. The guide does say you need a Pocketstation to get him, so that information has been sitting in this book since 1999!
- Due to the kana morae, the prefixes are almost always the full two syllables: Pata, Suku, Tera, and Rado. The Ska- prefix is "suku" in Japanese, so either Sku- or Sk-. There are a few strange exceptions, with Rado being Ragi in a few places (or Dogu for the Hambu minions and a few others), Skwooga, etc. as in the English game.
- Hackaroo's Japanese name is Buckaroo, which was changed either because they misread バ as ハ, or because Buckaroo is too silly :P
- Patbecker et al's names are "Patapecker" in Japanese, changed for obvious reasons.
- Pateeb et al are "Pateep", may have been a misreading.
The only one left for me to transcribe is the Chosen One's name, which I will do today. Ah, it's good to be back :)
